  • Local landmark Bridgeway House was completed in 1921 for Williams Deacon's Bank in Cheadle Hulme. The building's architect took inspiration from New York's Fuller Building, opened in 1902 with views across Manhattan's East 23rd Street and Madison Square Park. Nicknamed "The Flat Iron", due to it's unusual triangular footprint,  this 22-story early skyscraper shares many features and some of its ongoing story with Bridgeway House.

Chief among these stories is the fact that The Flat Iron never received it's intended facade-finishing clock; something Bridgeway House boasts over it's Big Apple inspiration. As such, the team at MyHQ were adamant from the start that this defining feature be conserved and restored to working order, repeating history by achieving this with the original makers of the timepiece, Smith of Derby.

Other features both buildings share include stone parapets, metal staircases and a rooftop floor added later in their histories. Talking of staircases, a 4-metre high artistic mural of the famous skyscraper adorns the upper wall of the stairwell, with some notable anomalies.

    MANCHESTER'S HEROES, FINEST & ICONS

Whilst the architecture of the building takes inspiration from an early New York early skyscraper, the reinvention of Bridgeway House into the unique coworking spaces of MyHQ takes inspiration not just from the building's own banking heritage but also from Manchester's industrial past; it's icons, it's finest, it's heroes.

All with a dash of retrofuturistic steampunk style thrown in for good measure; from the exposed century-old steelwork, to the vault door, to the industrial-chic of all our custom Crittall doors and screens, to the aptly named and beautifully furnished amenities.
